CNC FINAL ASSIGNMENT:

POSTCARDS

For the final assignment of Cultures and Civilisations, we were individually tasked to create 10 postcards following a specific theme and a concept. There were four themes which we could choose from, People and Spaces, Religion, Malaysian Architecture and Fusion Architecture. I chose Fusion Architecture as my theme. For the concept, we were required to come up with our own concept that all the postcards have to follow, in order to give a feeling of unity between the postcards. The concepts also have to relate to the theme. I chose the concept "East meets West", since all my postcards show how Western culture and architecture has affected the local Asian structures.

For the location, I went to Putrajaya and Penang to get the pictures I wanted. For Putrajaya, I visited the outside of Perdana Putra (since no visitors were allowed in) and in Penang, I went to the Jubilee clocktower, Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion and Pinang Peranakan Mansion. The reason I chose these places in particular is because they fit with my theme and concept of East meets West. These two places also provided a slight contrast in the style of Fusion Architecture, with Putrajaya being more modern and Penang being more traditional.

REFLECTION

I had fun while taking pictures for this assignment. Not only was it a wonderful experience, I learned a lot about the places I visited as well. In Putrajaya, I got to visit new places and learn new things with my group of friends who were also doing CNC. I never knew Putrajaya was such a beautiful place as I've only been there once as a child. As for Penang, although it is my hometown, I still discovered many new things while doing my CNC there. IThis project gave me the chance to truly stop and appreciate the streets of Penang. It didn't feel like I was doing school work at all as I had a great time and even met a new friend while doing this project! Overall, I liked this project as it was definitely less stressful.
